Rubin Museum of Art has some fine stuff. This one is called Nepal in Black and White
At one point, I was in that Jeep. But not when it crashed… just when it nearly did.
My parents never even graduated from high school, but President Kennedy’s idealism and spirit of possibility inspired them to send all six of us children to college. — Brian Schweitzer from his DNC speech on August 26th, 2008, link to the full transcript
Probably the best speech at the Democratic National Convention tonight was given by Governor Brian Schweitzer of Montana.
He was colorful. He was funny. He was on message. And he got everyone involved. Bill Clinton was seen mouthing his praises on CSPAN - also the only channel worth watching for DNC or any political coverage.
What you get on CNN, CBS, FOX News, MSNBC and all the other channels is fluff and useless ranting. If you really care, just watch the event without the commentary. It will help you in your decision-making too.

Scarlett came to me today with one of those questions actors ask, “What’s my motivation?” I shot back, “Your salary.” She said fine but that she needed a lot more motivation to continue. About triple. Otherwise she threatened to walk… — Woody Allen, from his diary on the set of Vicky, Cristina, Barcelona
Jeanne Pierre Melville’s gripping, slow-paced dark drama is one of the most uniquely constructed World War II film I have ever seen in my life.
The reality of the film is absolutely haunting. In a particular scene, we are at a firing range where the captured inmates are told to run and whoever reaches the end wall before everyone else will be killed in the next round instead of the current round.
We hear the prisoner’s thoughts as he stands there not wanting to run away like a scared rabbit, but eventually, he gives in. The entire series of events leading up to his final moments are so real that you will feel like you’re the prisoner.
An absolutely mind blowing soundtrack accompanies this quiet-spy thriller. The film was not released in the United States when it was originally made in 1969. But thanks to the good folks over at Rialto Pictures, it was restored beautifully and came to us in 2006.
If you watch only one World War 2 film in your lifetime, make it this one.
